Commercial Pilot License (Aeroplane) with Instrument Rating
For the applicants pursuing a career in aviation, may it be a charter pilot, executive business jet or airline pilot. The Commercial Pilot License with Instrument Rating provides you with the knowledge and skills require to taken on any role in the aviation sector.

Openskies CPL/IR  is designed to fullfill ground theory and flight training requirements of both Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) and International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) hence  the CPL/IR would be internationally recognised and can be easierly converted to any national license.

Course Structure

Ground Theory
The ground theory for CPL/IR is covered through our flagship ATPL Theory program and as such no seperate CPL/IR Ground theory is required.

Flight Training
The flight training for CPL/IR stage consists of 150 hours of flight training on top of the 50 hours already gained through the initial Private Pilot License program.

During the program the applicants will build upon Cross Country Navigaton skills learnt through PPL and further develop skills relating to Flying In Instrument Conditions such as ILS Approach and Landing, VOR Navigation, VOR HOLD/Approaches enabiling you to competently fly across the globe for any major airline.

Outline of Flight Training

  • 45 Hours PIC Cross Country Flying
  • 35 Hours Instrument Flight Time
  • Build up 70 Hours PIC Time
  • 5 Hours Single Engine Complex (SEC) Rating
  • 5 Hours Night Flying including ( 5 circuits as PIC)
  • 8 Hours Multi Engine Rating (MER)


Duration

Full time students:   6 Months Guranteed

Part time students:  75 Contact dates.

Note: 
Full time students are required to be available for rostering  monday through friday, where Openskies gurantees rostering of a minimum 4 days. Weekend flights available to speed up flight training.

Part Time students, duration depends upon number of contact dates provided by student to carry out flight training as per student availability, however flight is subject to good weather.



CAASL CPL/IR Requirements

For students having commenced flight training prior to 1st August 2018
  • 180 Hours of Total Flight Time excluding MER
  • 70 Hours PIC Time
  • 50 Hours Cross Country Flying as PIC
  • 40 Hours Instrument Flight Time
  • 8 Hours MER shall be on top of 180 hours required for SE CPL/IR

For students having commenced flight trainng after 1st August 2018
  • 200 Hours of Total Flight Time
  • 70 Hours PIC Time
  • 50 Hours PIC Cross Country Flying
  • 40 Hours Instrument Flying
  • 5 Hours Single Engine Complex (SEC) Rating
